The Paradigm Shift

Myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia are not simple "optical errors" to be corrected mechanically with a lens. They are the local manifestation of systemic dysfunctions involving metabolism, posture, extracellular matrix and lifestyle. The eye is a living tissue that remodels itself in response to environmental and biochemical stimuli. Refractive errors are "matrix diseases": the sclera and cornea deform because collagen is altered by inflammation, glycation or mechanical stress.

In children, it can be significantly slowed down with combined protocols (special lenses, atropine, lifestyle). In adults it usually stabilizes, but retinal complications must be monitored.

Often it is not a prescription issue, but latent accommodative stress, cervical muscle tension, or reduced blinking from screens (causing dry eyes).
